ADHD and Nutritional Support

ADHD and Nutritional Support

Many parents feel overwhelmed when their child is diagnosed with ADHD but with the right support children can and will thrive.  Diet and lifestyle factors can play an important role in helping an individual feel more balanced enabling them to get the best out of life!  Every child is unique so will need specific support tailored to them and their lifestyle but some important areas to consider would be looking at some key dietary nutrients that play an important role in supporting neuro diverse children.

Omega 3 is an essential fatty acid which is crucial for a developing brain and as is obtained through diet. Most children aren't so keen on oily fish such as mackerel and sardines so supplementation can be useful enabling children to be able to focus better. A study at Goteborg University in Sweden found that daily doses of Omega 3 reduced ADHD symptoms by 50%.

Protein is essential for a growing child and not only supports growth and development but also helps balance blood glucose levels.  Children who aren't getting enough protein can be on a rollercoaster of blood sugar highs and low effecting mood and behaviour.

Magnesium is a wonder mineral!  it is responsible for hundreds of different mechanisms within the body.  When we are busy and stressed our levels can become depleted which can have an impact on mood, behaviour and energy.  Unfortunately, levels in the soil are depleted so supplementing with magnesium can help support these key areas.  It is a great mineral to help the body wind down so perfect for busy minds and bodies!
